Borrowing @ Jacob Burns Law Library

Loan periods and fees

General Collection

The Jacob Burns Law Library circulates materials to the GW Law community, including faculty, adjunct faculty, students and staff. 

In addition, GW faculty and graduate students may borrow materials in-person from the law library, or may request items through the  WRLC Consortium Loan Service (CLS).  Books borrowed through CLS are delivered to the borrower's home library (Gelman or Himmelfarb).

GW undergraduate students may borrow materials from the law library, using Gelman's interlibrary loan service or CLS.  Books are delivered to the Gelman library within a few days for pick-up.

Students and faculty from other WLRC member institutions may borrow materials through their institution's interlibrary loan service or CLS.  Books are delivered to the borrower's home institution within a few days.

Reserve Collection

Reserve books include books on course reserve. Reserve books may be checked out for two hours for use in the library. Renewals are subject to a 30-minute waiting period.

Special Items

Ear plugs are available at the circulation desk on the First Floor of the law library and at the second floor entrance.

In addition to books and other resources, GW Law students may borrow:

  • Chargers for laptops, tablets and phones
  • VGA and other media connectors
  • Bike locks
  • Clip-on lamps
  • Headphones
  • Tape recorders
  • Calculators
  • Portable DVD player

Library Materials

All library materials must be checked out at the Circulation Desk before being removed from the library or stored in a library locker or cubicle.  See our guide, Borrowing @ Jacob Burns Law Library, for information on loan periods.

Library materials are for the shared benefit of and use by library patrons.  Any mutilation of materials, including marking, tearing, underlining, and highlighting, is considered a violation of The George Washington University Law School Academic Integrity Code and will be referred to the Academic Integrity Committee.

Library materials left in carrels or on tables will be shelved.
