La Pragmatique Sanction en Francoys
Paris: Gaspard Philippe, 1508
The first French edition of the Pragmatic Sanction of Charles VII that granted a variety of rights, normally reserved to the Catholic Church, to the King of France. This book is important not only because it represents an early attempt to make the text of the Pragmatic Sanction accessible in the vernacular to those unable to read Latin, but also because it was bound by the bookbinding artist Léon Gruel and exhibited at the Exposition Universelle (Paris) in 1900.
