About the AEC

The U.S. Atomic Energy Commission was established by Atomic Energy Act of 1946, 60 Stat. 755 (1946).   It was abolished by the Energy Reorganization Act of 1974, 88 Stat. 1237 (1974). Website 

The Energy Reorganization Act created three federal entities:

  • Energy Research and Development Administration
  • Nuclear Regulatory Commission
  • Energy Resources Council
