A/V in Classroom Spaces

What if I run into room technology issues in the classroom?

Please let us know as soon as possible by picking up the Media Center hotline phone on the wall. This phone rings directly and immediately to the Media Center, once picked up.

The IT department cannot assist with Law classroom AV issues, so please avoid contacting them.

Can I have a microphone for my classroom?

Your classroom may already have a lapel mic available for use. Otherwise, microphones cannot be added to rooms; the microphones listed in this guide for each room is what’s available and already installed and programmed to work with the room’s AV system.

Can I have a virtual guest lecturer?

Yes. Mostly all of our classrooms have Zoom capability. Please see our guide here on Using Zoom in the Classroom.

Are classes automatically recorded?

If you are record all, your classes are automatically recorded.

If you are not record all, or are having a special class session (make-up, review, etc.) you must let us know, with due notice, that you want it recorded. Be sure to include course and section number, date, room, start and end time. See details in our guide here: Creating Academic Recordings

Are the cameras in the classrooms always recording?

No. The cameras are only recording when the Media Center has scheduled a recording with a specific start and end time or you have started a Zoom meeting set to record. This could be for regular class recordings, event recordings, or meetings.

I'm having an external guest come in and speak/host the class, can you log in to the computer for them?

No, the Media Center cannot log in to the computers for anyone.

The external guest would need a GW affiliated person/sponsor to use their credentials and log in to the computer for them. Or the GW member should email us at media@law.gwu.edu to request a guest account for their speaker.

Can I, as a student, access the room computers?

Yes. Any University member that has a GW UserID and password can log in to the Law School room computers.
