A/V in Classroom Spaces

Hotline Phone

The hotline phone is an emergency phone that rings directly to the GW Law Media Center when picked up by the user. The phone hangs on the wall and is either beige or black (CTH and LLC rooms) with no dial pad.

This phone is the most important feature found in all of our Law School classrooms.

*The Law-GW IT department cannot assist with Law classroom AV issues, so please avoid contacting them with the normal phones with dial pads in the classrooms*

Touch Control Panel

The touch control panel is the "remote" for starting and using the room's AV system.

From the panel you would do tasks like:

  • Power On the projector and lower the screen or turn on the TVs (CTH and LLC rooms).
  • Adjust or mute the room volume, when playing media or doing a Zoom
  • Switch to the laptop input if you connect your own laptop
  • Blank the screen if you need to temporarily hide sensitive content on your computer screen

Room Computer

The room computer refers to the PC that is connected to the room system. The physical computer is either visible underneath the lectern, in a separate cabinet within the room, or in an AV closet.

The computers have DVD drives if you want to play a video in class and USB drives if you bring in media, PowerPoints, or other files via a USB stick/flash drive.

Keyboard and Mouse

Some rooms, like Stuart 402 or Stockton 306, have just a keyboard and mouse out on the table. This is the case in rooms that do not have a traditional computer monitor and instead rely on the projector screen as the computer monitor.

Lapel Microphone

The lapel microphone is a small portable mic that attaches to your lapel or somewhere near your mouth on your clothing. This mic is available in the lectern drawers of larger rooms where amplification may be needed.

Recording Capabilities

All of our GW Law classrooms have recording capabilities. Recording requires at least one room camera and uses the room's lectern mic and ceiling mics (and lapel mic if used), to pick up audio. If the room computer is used, the recording also picks up whatever is on the screen.

For rooms with two cameras, the camera view can be changed upon request.

Zoom Capabilities

Zoom capability is the ability for the room's AV system to facilitate a Zoom meeting with full two-way communication. When starting a Zoom meeting on the room's computer, the Zoom audio, speaker, and camera settings should default to the room's microphones, speakers, and camera and allow for a normal Zoom meeting experience.

For rooms with two cameras, you may request a change in the camera view.
