Bloomberg Law

Scope of Access

No summer access restrictions.  Enrolled students have access upon registering for a Bloomberg password until 6 months post graduation.  Access includes use during summer employment* and post-graduation job searching.

Log on to Bloomberg Law at http://www.bloomberglaw.com

Bloomberg Law combines comprehensive coverage of primary legal authority, both federal and state, with company and market information, financial data, news, and exceptional access to court dockets and filings.

* Bloomberg Law advises students to ask their employer about any policy the firm or organization may have regarding the use of student accounts for firm/organizational business.  Depending on the employer the student may receive access to a summer associate Bloomberg Law account that they will be required to use for billing purposes.

Graduating Students

All 2021 graduating law students will have unrestricted access to Bloomberg Law for six months following graduation. You must have an active Bloomberg Law account prior to graduation.

Accounts

To obtain Bloomberg Law credentials, send an email request to electronicservices@law.gwu.libanswers.com.  The email should include full name, @law email address, GWID, graduation year, and identify which service(s) access is being requested.

Support Throughout the Summer

The Bloomberg Law Representative for GW Law, Vrenda Cainvcain@bloombergindustry.com, is available to you during the summer for support and training.

Students also have access to 24/7 customer support for research assistance at 1-888-560-BLAW or blawhelp@bna.com.

Lexis

Scope of Access

Unlimited access to your Lexis+ ID. The LexisNexis Summer Access program for law students permits unlimited use of Lexis+ for academic, professional, and non-profit research.  Summer access is available from the date spring classes end through the date fall classes begin.  Normal law school terms of service apply outside these dates.

Graduating Students

May 2021 graduates will automatically have LexisNexis access for 6 months.  May 2021 graduates doing verifiable 501(c)(3) public interest work can get 12 months of access by enrolling in the ASPIRE program at http://www.lexisnexis.com/grad-access.  All May 2021 graduates can also choose 6 months of access to either Practical Guidance, Law360, or Lexis for Microsoft Office.  

Accounts

For students registered as Lexis+ users, no action is required for continued summer access.  Students not currently registered for Lexis+ can receive their ID credentials by sending an email to electronicservices@law.gwu.libanswers.com.  The email should include full name, @law email address, GWID, graduation year, and identify which service(s) access is being requested.

Westlaw

Scope of Access

Students will automatically have summer access to the Westlaw Research System.  Use of Westlaw is limited to 60-hours per month during the summer, and cannot be used to bill clients.  Access to TWEN is available during the summer.

Eligible students may qualify to have the limit on total hours waived for the following uses:

  • Summer law school classes and study abroad programs
  • Law Review and Journal, including write-on competitions
  • Research assistant
  • Moot Court
  • Work for a non-profit entity

Students with summer employment in law firms, corporations, government agencies and alike should not use their academic password for research and must use their firm issued password.

Graduate Elite Program

Students have access to Thomson Reuters products, including Westlaw and Practical Law, for six-months after graduation. Your “Grad Elite” access gives you 60-hours of usage on these products per month to gain understanding and build confidence in your research skills. While you cannot use it in situations where you are billing a client, Thomson Reuters encourages you to use these tools to build your knowledge of the law and prepare for your bar exam.
