Accounts

To obtain research accounts, send an email request to electronicservices@law.gwu.libanswers.com.  The email should include full name, @law email address, GWID, and graduation year.

* Spring 2025 graduates must register for student accounts prior to graduation in order to take advantage of the graduate access programs.  Once you graduate, the Law Library cannot issue student level research accounts.

Bloomberg Law

Continuing Students

No summer access restrictions.  This access is automatic for existing accounts and is unlimited and unrestricted. 

* Bloomberg Law advises students to ask their employer about any policy the firm or organization may have regarding the use of student accounts for firm/organizational business. 

Graduating Students

All graduates have continuous, access for six months following graduation.  Spring 2025 graduates will have access through November 30, 2025. This access is automatic for existing student accounts and is unlimited and unrestricted.

Lexis

Graduate Access Program:

  • Overview for Spring 2025 Graduates: The Spring 2025 Graduate Program provides recent law school graduates extended access to Lexis+, a customized version of the Law School Home Page with graduate specific content, and a choice of a graduation gift from LexisNexis.
     
  • Extended Access to Lexis+: Spring graduates have access to Lexis+ via their law school IDs through December 31, 2025. This access can be used for any purpose.  Spring graduates have access to most of the same content and features available during law school, excluding public records, Lexis+ AI®, Law 360, and Practical Guidance.
     
  • Graduate Home Page: On July 10, 2025, the spring graduates’ view of the Law School Home Page will automatically switch to the graduate view. This new view provides helpful information for their careers and job search.
     
  • Graduate Gift: Graduates can select a “Graduation Gift” from the new Graduate view of then Law School Home Page. This years’ gift choices include:
    • Intelligize (6-month from date of redemption)
    • Law360 (6-month from date of redemption)
    • Practical Guidance (6-month from date of redemption)
    • One of 13 LexisNexis eBooks
    • Access to this gift will expire within the timeline noted above or on December 31, 2025, whichever is longer.
       
  • LexisNexis Rewards Expiration: Spring graduates have until June 30, 2025 to redeem their LexisNexis Rewards points.

Summer Access Program:

  • Overview: Like previous years, students automatically receive access to Lexis+ AI with Protégé with their law school IDs during the summer – May, June, and July. Students do not have to take any action to gain access. Their law school IDs can be used for any purpose over the summer, but students should check with their employers first. Some employers would rather students use their firm IDs rather than their law school IDs for billing purposes.

Westlaw

Continuing Students

You can use Thomson Reuters products, including Westlaw and Practical Law, over the summer for non-commercial research. You can turn to these resources to gain understanding and build confidence in your research skills, but you cannot use them in situations where you are billing a client.  Examples of permissible uses for your academic password include the following:

  • Summer coursework
  • Research assistant assignments
  • Law Review or Journal research
  • Moot Court research
  • Non-Profit work
  • Clinical work
  • Externship sponsored by the school

You do not have to do anything to gain access to these tools over the summer. If you have any questions, please contact your Academic Account Manager

Graduating Students

You have access to Thomson Reuters products, including Westlaw and Practical Law, for six months after graduation by registering for “Grad Elite” access here.  Register prior to graduation as grad elite access begins upon graduation not at the time of registration.

“Grad Elite” access gives you 60-hours of usage on these products per month to gain understanding and build confidence in your research skills. While you cannot use it in situations where you are billing a client, Thomson Reuters encourages you to use these tools to build your knowledge of the law and prepare for your bar exam.
