A/V Services for Events at GW Law

Basic AV Support

This includes:

  • assisting logging onto the podium computer or connecting an external laptop to the podium
  • assisting with the use of the touch control panel for projection of your slides and content
  • showing the available microphone options for your space
  • assisting with starting your Zoom

NOTE:

We cannot log in to the room computers for you. You must come prepared to your event with your log in information.

To log on to the classroom computer you will need to use your GW userID and password.

  • For users who claimed their GW Identity after May 22, 2022: Your UserID is your GWID.  Your GWID is the letter G followed by an 8-digit number.

  • For users who claimed their GW Identity before May 22, 2022: Your User ID is the first part of your GW email address (formerly NetID) and is followed by @gwu.edu, @email.gwu.edu, or @gwmail.gwu.edu.

These accounts are managed by GWIT. More information about GW userID can be found here:
https://it.gwu.edu/identity-and-access-management

Video Recording

Using our wall cameras and AV system, we can record your event with audio and video in most rooms.

The default display for the recording is dual picture, where half of the video screen will be the room PC and the other half the room Camera feed.

When requesting your recording after the event, the following are the options you may request from:

Display

  • Video (room camera) feed
  • Podium Computer (PC) feed
  • Half PC, half video feed

Format

  • Unlisted YouTube link (shareable)
  • MP4 file shared via Google Drive (we will transfer GD file ownership to you so you can share as you wish)

NOTE:

  • The video recording system is automated and will start and stop the recording at the times you provided to us. You may add buffer time to the beginning or end, but you must provide us the specific times.
  • We do not provide any editing services for your event.
  • The video camera is fixed and we do not provide any sort of zooming, panning, camera movement, or video switching during your event.
  • We will not record an all day event in one recording. You must provide us a clear agenda with titles, rooms, and specific start and end times of exactly what you want recorded so we may schedule them individually. This lessens the chance of a recording failure and losing the entire event recording.

Video "Streaming"

Zoom

Our main option for video "streaming" is to use Zoom. Using the room computer and our AV system (wall cameras, room speakers, room microphones), you can have people participate, or just watch, on Zoom from their device without being in the room.

Prior to your event, you would need to schedule your own Zoom meeting (with your @law Zoom account) and distribute to your desired audience. If you are an @law faculty member, you will also receive a cloud recording directly to your email from Zoom once it finishes. For staff or students, you may record locally with your @law Zoom account; this means you would need to save and download it before logging off of the computer.

Overflow

A second option for less interactive streaming within the Law School rooms only is Overflow. If you have overflow rooms for an event, we can display the main room's picture into the overflow room. Those in the overflow room will see and hear what's going on in the main room but there is no interaction between the rooms with this option, view only.

NOTE:
The room camera is fixed and we do not provide any sort of zooming, panning, camera movement, or video switching during your event.
