Glossary

  • CLS: Consortium Loan Service (among participating libraries in the Washington Research Library Consortium).

  • Course Reserves: Materials placed on course reserve by GW Law faculty.

  • ILL: The interlibrary loan service obtains material for you from institutions all over the world, if the material is unavailable at the Jacob Burns Law Library, Gelman Library, or Himmelfarb Library.

  • JACOB: JACOB is the Law Library's catalog, which includes books and journals (including e-books and e-journals). Search JACOB to find books and journals -- not articles -- in the collection of the Jacob Burns Law Library.

  • JACOB+: JACOB+ includes the Burns Law Library's catalog (books and journals, including e-books and e-journals) as well as other materials and selected articles to which the Library has access.

  • WorldCat Discovery: Worldcat Discovery is the best database to search for items that must be obtained through the interlibrary loan (ILL) system. Items are searched in thousands of libraries worldwide. 

  • WRLC: The Washington Research Library Consortium is a consortium of libraries of which GW is a member.
