The French Collection spans the 15th through 19th centuries, and includes coutumes, or customary law, French legal codes, trials, materials documenting the conflict between church and state, and an extensive grouping of French Revolutionary materials. The French Collection was significantly enhanced as a result of two major European auction purchases in 2001 and 2002.
