Information relevant for searching the Law Library's catalogs & databases

Accessing online materials at Gelman and Himmelfarb Libraries

All GW Law community patrons have access to databases and other online materials available through the GW Gelman and Himmelfarb libraries. Patrons must go directly to those library's catalogs to conduct a search. There may be some materials that are accessible only by Gelman and Himmelfarb affiliates. If you are unable to access an item, please contact the reference desk at the Burns Law Library.

Using Gelman's catalog

  • Start your search by using the search box on the Gelman library page.
  • The default search is "Articles + GW & Consortium Catalog."
  • GW Law patrons do not need to sign in to access online journals or ebooks.
  • Articles: search by article title or name of journal.
  • Ebooks: search by book title.
  • Online materials owned by other WRLC libraries are not accessible. You must submit an interlibrary loan request through the JACOB catalog.

Using Himmelfarb's catalog

  • Start your search by using the search box on the Himmelfarb library page.
  • The default search is "Articles + Himmelfarb Catalog."
  • GW Law patrons do not need to sign in to access online journals or ebooks.
  • Scopus results are included in search results for on-campus users.
  • Scopus is available to off-campus users if they are accessing the catalog via the university's virtual private network (VPN).
