Federal Communications Law

The FCC regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories. It was established by the Communications Act of 1934 and operates as an independent U.S. government agency overseen by Congress. FCC documents posted from March 1996 to the present are available via the EDOCS system. The Electronic Comment Filing System (ECFS) serves as the repository for official records in the FCC's docketed proceedings and rulemakings from 1992 to the present.

The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) is the national association representing the State Public Service Commissioners who regulate essential utility services, such as energy, telecommunications, water, and transportation, in each state. NARUC's site offers an archive of testimony, correspondence, legal filings, and resolutions.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), a bureau of the Department of Commerce, is the executive branch’s principal advisory office on domestic and international telecommunications and information policies. Its mandate is to provide greater access for all Americans to telecommunications services, support U.S. efforts to open foreign markets, advise on international telecommunications negotiations, and fund research for new technologies and their applications.

The GAO produces reports and testimony on agencies, such as the FCC, and on diverse topics from information security to telecommunications.
